Vumatel and Cool Ideas, the way forward.

A good start.
The Vumatel team were meant to arrive at 08h30,
and they rang our gate bell at 08h10.
The entire installation was completed by 09h55.

I had no idea what the inside of this box looked like.
Now I know and I was astounded by the diameter of the fibre.

My contribution to the installation...
I drilled the hole through the wall!

Sipho hard at work.
All the conduit was fastened to walls with saddles,
not just dropped into the foliage

At one point in the installation there were three Vumatel vehicles
in our driveway.

This was the team that did the installation.
From L to R...
Bevan Rakitla, Sipho Phakula and Thabang Rakitla.
Well done on a speedy installation.

A final test to make certain that the line is stable.

And THIS is what all the "fuss" is about...
This box on my office wall.
But without an ISP, this box is exactly that...
a box!

However, if you add a
TP-LINK from Cool Ideas,
then the magic starts to happen.
My main reason for changing from Telkom
was the lack of a proper Internet service.
I was paying for a 10 meg line,
and in the recent past, I was getting less than 1meg.
For weeks they tried to "rectify" the fault,
but with no success.
Technicians arrived without appointments
and it was becoming a comedy of errors.

So, out with the old...
and I welcome the new.
It was of interest that Telkom was unable to fix the problem
over a five week period,
but they were able to "cancel" my service immediately.
A new ring tone and a new phone number
within 5 minutes...now THAT is service.

The installation team of Benary and Aubrey hard at work.
The entire installation was completed in less than 2 hours.
Neat and tidy and with smiles and handshakes.
Infra Base did the cable installation for
the extended Internet coverage as well as the Voip telephones.

A blast from the past. Spring Day 2014.

The day dawned bright and clear...
The bunting and the balloons made 4th Ave, Linden the place to be!
These are some of the images from the day.
Our suburb has certainly changed in the past 3 years...

The man that put up all the bunting and the balloons.
Roy, relaxing at the candy floss machine.
Update...
Roy has gone to live in Port Elizabeth

Pierre, the owner of the Argentinean Bakery.
I have no idea what he was trying to say...

My wife, Carolyn, together with John, who put this event together.
The Corner Shop had a "chill" area set up outside their shop.

Why did this portrait artist have to dress as a clown?
Perhaps the youngster suffers from Coulrophobia,
and hence the reason he is keeping his eyes shut?
Many people are scared of clowns,
and perhaps a change of outfit is possibly on the cards.

Le Decore.
The interior design shop became exterior.
They have some great fabrics and decorative items on sale.
We need to have a chair re-covered,
and after looking through the fabric range we found something that we both liked.
We chatted with owner Yanka Kruger and are awaiting a quote.

At GZ I discovered this client.
She did want to remove the tin foil, but I decided against that

A satisfied customer at Satori...
Pizza and beer, nothing more required.

Some interesting bedroom décor at the Ceramic shop

And hidden away in the centre between Millies and the ceramic shop,
is this fabric shop.

The recently re-branded hardware store next to Rembrandt Butchery

This lady was selling balloons to try to supplement her disability payment.
Unfortunately, she had positioned herself where there was very little foot traffic

Yum...snacks at Angelo's Deli.
He is now serving home made lemonade on a regular basis.
Update...
Angelo's Deli is now Gravity.

An iconic South African beverage...

"Our" suburb would be incomplete without an antique shop.
But we have this one.

They might be Hair Experts,
but not so good at spelling.
The word "Linden" is incorrect on the banner.
My wife did not even know that this salon existed.
She was able to book an appointment immediately.
This is what she had to say about her experience:
"I decided to give them a try as it is always convenient to
to have a hair salon close by.
I liked the look of the place which has a lovely skyline view of Johannesburg.
Shane attended to me from start to finish and that included washing  my hair ,
giving me a divine head massage and cut.
He was full of good advice as how to best manage my often  unruly curly hair at home.
And what most impressed me most of all is that the salon caters to those with special needs.
It has wheelchair access and an sms facility for  the hearing impaired.
I have yet to find a salon that has all these factors in making it a most pleasant experience,
 without feeling ripped off.
 I shall be back".

There was music on every corner.
Some live, and at the bottle store, recorded
Update...
This entire corner has been re-vamped and the suburb is awaiting the new stores

This iconic Linden landmark was involved.
Update...
This shop closed and is now a cocktail bar.
It will always be missed.

As was my corner office...

Patrick can be found outside Arthur Bales making wire items.
He is already busy with Christmas trees and decorations
