Its a cover up! Manhole covers in Linden, Johannesburg

Beauty is often where we least look.
I spent a Sunday morning walking through our suburb taking these images
of manhole( should that be gender neutral hole?)
and water meter covers.
These iron cover are becoming scarce as their scrap value increases...
I assume the JM stands for Johannesburg Municipality.
Might be "Jolly messy", but I somehow doubt that.
No surprise as to what await under this!
Because of theft, the metal meter covers were replaced with these...
This belongs to Johannesburg Water
Vegetation grows in the strangest places.
An interesting pattern.
The water meter covers that were made in Wabash,Indiana.USA...
I wonder why?
A pavement meter...
the leaves nestle in the hollow on the cover
Visually the covers are different depending on how much traffic goes over them.
Up close... No covers seemed to be made in Johannesburg...
Following my discovery that the many were made in the USA,
I found a couple that were  made in Pretoria
The cracks are showing...
Glowing in the mid morning light.
"Down on the corner"...
with apologies to Creedence Clearwater Revival
Time to put a lid on it and head home.
